Who is conducting this research?
This study is being conducted by Alice Kneipp (alice.kneipp@mq.edu.au) to meet the requirements of a PhD, under the supervision of Dr Adam Smith (adam.smith@mq.edu.au) and Dr Hanna Torsh (hanna.torsh@mq.edu.au).
What is this research about?
We are studying the acceptance and use of innovative grammar in Australian English.
If you decide to participate, you will be asked to indicate your willingness to participate in this research by ticking the “Agree” button at the bottom of this page. You will then be asked to complete the online screening questionnaire to determine if you are eligible. Completing the online screening measure will take approximately 5 minutes. If you are eligible, you will be enrolled in this project and contacted in the next few days by the researcher (Alice Kneipp) with further information.
What does participation involve?
During this questionnaire, you will be asked a few questions about yourself.
If you are eligible and choose to participate in the following interview, you will be paired with a partner (either a friend of yours or a stranger) for a zoom call that will run for approximately one hour. This zoom call will be recorded. During this interview, you will be shown a film clip and asked questions about how you feel about the clip.
What do I get for my participation?
If you complete the interview, you will receive a $50 gift card as compensation for your time.
Beyond this, there will be no direct or immediate benefit to you from assisting in this research. The benefit of this research is that it aims to provide useful information to the LGBTQ+ community on the attitudes and nature of change regarding inclusive language.
Can I stop at any time?
Participation in this study is entirely voluntary; you are not obliged to participate. You are free to withdraw at any time without having to give a reason and without consequence. If you consent to completing the interview, your data will be anonymised and analysed. You will have the opportunity to withdraw your responses up to 10 weeks after your participation.
How will my data be used now and in the future?
