Exploring Melisma in Contemporary Popular Music Practice and Pedagogy
You are invited to participate in a study of melisma in Contemporary Popular Music Styles (CPM, also known as CCM). The purpose of the study is to understand how melisma is used, learnt, taught, and viewed in CPM singing styles.
The research is being conducted by Joanna Fabro, in fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy, under the supervision of Prof. Diane Hughes of the School of Humanities, Faculty of Arts, Macquarie University (P: +61 2 9850 2175).
This online survey will take between 15-30 minutes to complete. Questions ask about your personal views and use of melisma in relation to style, aesthetic values, and learning and teaching methods. Questions 1-4 relate to your background and are for contextual purposes. No preparation or specialist knowledge is needed to take part.
For the purposes of this study, Contemporary Popular Music (CPM), also known as CCM is defined as: Styles of Western popular music such as blues, gospel, soul, pop, rock, RnB, country, folk, and jazz. This study excludes the Western Classical and Music Theatre genres.
